About Me
Your child is learning English. They can do the worksheets and get through the test. But in class, they stay quiet. On holiday, they hesitate. When it matters, they hold back.
You want them to feel confident enough to speak up, not just get by.
That's the gap I work in.
I'm Georgie Scott-Barrett, a qualified UK primary school teacher, originally from Oxfordshire, with a PGCE, CELTA Grade A and over a decade of experience teaching English to children worldwide. I specialise in 1:1 online English lessons for children aged 7 to 11, particularly those from non-native English speaking families.
Before teaching, I worked in finance. But volunteering with primary school children changed everything. I moved to China and taught at an international school. Among the children I taught were two shy girls, one from Japan and the other from Germany. Without a shared language between them, English was the bridge. By the end of term they were inseparable. That was the moment I understood what English really means to children: not just grades, but friendships, confidence and belonging. On returning to the UK, I taught in primary schools before starting online tutoring in 2020, where I have since delivered thousands of lessons to children worldwide.
I have been the child who struggled quietly and kept going. I have been the adult who froze in a foreign language and pushed through anyway. I have been the teacher who helped a shy child find her voice. I know that confidence doesn't arrive all at once. It comes in small steps, with the right support, at the right pace.
That is what I work on with every child, every lesson.
Many of my students attend international, bilingual and private schools across Hong Kong, China and Europe, and many families have been with me for years. I'm lucky to have received five-star ratings from families across the world.
My Online Lessons
No two lessons are quite the same. What we focus on, and how we approach it, depends entirely on your child.
Writing lessons are built around the specific skills your child needs to work on. That might be adding more detail, using punctuation correctly, or making their writing more interesting and ambitious. Your child might find themselves inventing their own mythical creature, writing instructions for their own MrBeast-style challenge, or crafting a real persuasive email about a cause they feel strongly about.
Speaking lessons are just as varied. Your child might be presenting about their dream school, debating whether children should be allowed to play computer games, or hosting their own YouTube channel live from space as an astronaut presenter. Pronunciation is woven into speaking lessons naturally. Whatever the activity, every speaking lesson is planned around a clear goal.
Lessons focused on general English skills may also include reading engaging texts and playing fun grammar and vocabulary games. Whatever we are working on, lessons are always planned to feel purposeful, creative and enjoyable.
Whether your child is preparing for a British, international or English-speaking school, working on their writing, or simply needs more opportunity to practise with a native online English tutor, I'd love to hear from you.
